Ramon was imprisoned in the Nebraska State Penitentiary (Lincoln, Nebraska USA) from February 1952 ( age 20) until September 1963 (31). He began with one 7 year sentence and ended with 4 sentences, totaling 20 years for felony offences committed during his incarcerationattempted escapes, holding two guards hostage for 65 hours, causing a destructive "riot/ fire" (jury trial), stabbing a guard and fellow convict, etc., etc. Eventually, newly appointed Warden Maurice Sigler nurtured the rehabilitation and parole of Ramon (against opposition) in 1963, after serving 11 1/2 years Their profound interaction in prison was do***ented and reviewed in film, including their warm reunion in 2001.
